UK Director
Job description

Europe's leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, T&E, is looking for a director to lead our UK Office. You will continue to build T&E UK's policy and media profile as one of the leading expert groups on transport and energy, in the UK and the EU. Supported by T&E staff across six European offices and one in Asia, as well as T&E’s UK member organizations, we are seeking a candidate who can take T&E UK to the next level of political influence.

Purpose of the Role

The overall aim of the role is to lead T&E’s national office in London and work with our members, industry and other allies to decarbonize the transport sector in the UK by accelerating the shift to zero emission transport solutions. A key priority will be to build stronger alliances between policy experts, policymakers, progressive industries, and the environmental sector. Unexpected coalitions will be needed to accelerate the change required to meet the climate emergency. As T&E UK Director, you will need to play a leading role in identifying and establishing those alliances.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Confidently represent T&E at the highest political level and across various media channels (print, digital, radio, TV).
  • Inspire, motivate and grow the T&E UK team using an inclusive leadership style.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of UK public policy and the regulatory process, with a focus on regulations that accelerate the shift to zero emission mobility.
  • Managing the UK office including operational, financial and HR responsibilities & be part of T&E's management team.
  • Coordinate with our members, NGO and business partners in the UK and identify new allies that can help us reach our goals.
  • Ensure that T&E is a key player and recognized expert group on policies and regulations that leads to a shift to zero carbon solutions.
  • Develop and deliver T&E national strategy and long-term vision on transport decarbonization aligned with T&E’s overarching goals.
  • Build and maintain good contact with policymakers, NGOs, industry, funders, media and other relevant stakeholders with focus on building strong coalitions.
  • Willing to use LinkedIn as an advocacy channel and to become a leading voice on T&E’s topics.
  • Lead and contribute to T&E’s fundraising efforts globally and in the UK, with a particular focus on growing T&E’s access to funding in the UK.
The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:
  • Ten years of relevant experience in either transport or advocacy - ideal candidates have both or will convince us they can learn the other skill very quickly.
  • An experienced leader, with a track record of leading and developing successful externally focused teams aligned towards common goals, using an effective coaching and management style.
  • A proven ability to cultivate contacts across the democratic political spectrum and build lasting alliances leading to tangible results. A strong existing network as well as great networking skills are a must.
  • A deep understanding of the UK and ideally the EU political system and an expert in regulations with capacity for political analysis.
  • Experience in developing strategies designed to create change in a complex and at times conservative sector; familiar with different tactics available to an organization at the intersection of think tank and NGO work to implement strategies (technical & policy analysis, campaigning, media, etc.)
  • Capacity to prioritize among competing issues and deliver on a number of regulatory, management and operational tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate and present complex issues to different audiences

The position will be primarily based in our London office located in Farringdon and would also involve some travel to key EU capitals, mostly Brussels. T&E offers a competitive salary in line with your experience, expertise and exceptional flexibility. Equally importantly, if you join T&E you’ll have the opportunity to devote your professional energy and creativity to the resolution of one of humankind's greatest challenges.

What do we offer?
  • Position Type: Full-time, permanent contract
  • Compensation: Competitive
  • Location: London (Farringdon)

We thank all candidates for their interest; however, we are only able to contact those who have been shortlisted. Only applicants with an existing right to work in the UK will be considered. Great organizations are built on great people. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and strive to build a diverse and inclusive workforce at T&E.
