AtkinsRéalis is looking to appoint a UK Technical Director for Building Services within our Building Design practice. This role involves leading our technical capabilities focused on building services excellence, sustainability, building performance, and low carbon solutions, supporting our multidisciplinary teams of Architects and Engineers to create innovative buildings and spaces.

This position reports directly to the UK Practice Director and Head of Discipline, influencing over 900 Engineers and Architects in our UK Building Design practice.

Join our UK Building Services team, involved in some of the most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors like Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy, Commercial, Transportation, and Defence.

Our work involves collaboration across the UK and internationally, on projects ranging from individual buildings to city-scale solutions.

The Role:

  • Seeking a knowledgeable and experienced mechanical building services expert with a strong track record in delivering consultancy services for both private and public sector clients, especially in the Buildings & Places market.
  • The role focuses on building design and environmental systems integration from project inception through development and detailed design.
  • Responsibilities include guiding project development at concept stages, conducting regular reviews, and providing in-depth involvement for complex projects.
  • You will support regional Technical Authorities in setting quality and technical standards, adopting new technologies, and guiding training initiatives.
  • The role can be based in any UK office, with hubs in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Epsom, Leeds, Warrington, and Cardiff, with flexible hybrid working options.

Responsibilities:

  • Own technical responsibility for project quality, design standards, and delivery processes.
  • Provide technical support to clients across various areas.
  • Stay informed on UK Government policies and industry initiatives related to Building Services.
  • Represent the company as a Subject Matter Expert on Mechanical Building Services.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and manage key accounts.
  • Lead and motivate the Building Services team on projects, providing technical guidance and leadership.

Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering, Chartered status with a relevant institution.
  • Ability to influence industry peers and senior management, challenging decisions positively.
  • Extensive experience in Mechanical Building Services design, compliance, and practical application.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills with a capability to inspire teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness, business management skills, and results-oriented approach.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills, professional demeanor.
