UI Programmer – Computer / Video Games - West Midlands

COMPANY:

Based in the Midlands, our client is a fast-growing gaming developer with a pipeline of exciting projects, aiming to fuel further growth of the business and your career.

Role:

• Develop and deliver high-quality game code for AAA Unreal 4 projects.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the UI Team to develop fully realized and functional game UI.
• Communicate and collaborate with the Programming and Design Teams to deliver polished and immersive UI that meets design and technical requirements.
• Work within project specifications and technology guidelines, focusing on performance and debugging issues.
• Profile and optimize code for memory and performance considerations.
• Scope tasks, meet deadlines, and communicate with production regarding any issues.
• Coordinate with design and production to establish achievable goals.
• Work with QA to track down and fix bugs.

Requirements:

• At least 1 year of professional experience in front-end web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript; TypeScript preferred).
• Experience with game-specific UI, including animation and a keen eye for layout and usability for UX.
• Good working knowledge of C++.
• At least 1 year of Unreal Engine 4 experience with a strong understanding of Unreal Engine tools.
• Understanding of content structure and management codebases, with the ability to learn existing code quickly.
• Debugging skills across required languages, with profiling and optimization abilities.
• Knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 blueprint, UMG logic, and gameplay logic assemblies.
• Ability to create prototypes that match design criteria quickly.
• Experience in developing high-quality UI systems for both single and multiplayer games.

Demonstrate the ability to:

• Think critically about game UI requirements.
• Self-motivate and take pride in your work.
• Work well within a team and communicate effectively.
• Create UML diagrams for code structure planning.
• Develop prototypes and wireframes throughout development stages.
• Adapt to new tools as required.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with Coherent UI for Unreal Engine using CoherentGameface.
• C++ experience in producing production-quality code.
• Multiplayer development experience.
• Experience with code reviews.
• Knowledge of other game creation areas.
• Experience developing for and deploying to consoles (Xbox One, PS4, etc.).
• Experience with live game maintenance.
