Job description

Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., the nation’s leading manufacturer of Ductile Iron Waterworks Fittings and Appurtenances, is actively looking for a Production Planner. Tyler Union's main manufacturing facility is located in Anniston, AL.

The Production Planner will coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments, including outside vendors, according to the production schedule. Responsibilities include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department personnel, supervisors, and vendors to determine progress and expected completion dates; and compiling reports on work progress, inventory levels, and costs. The role also involves communicating lead times, delays, and shortages to relevant personnel. The position promotes The McWane Way principles, values, and behaviors and embodies the Compass Culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Review and release work orders to generate production schedules.
  2. Distribute production schedules or work orders to departments.
  3. Review documents, such as production schedules, work orders, or sales orders, to determine materials requirements or priorities.
  4. Requisition and maintain inventories of materials or supplies necessary to meet production demands.
  5. Arrange for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts both internally and externally to meet production schedules.
  6. Supervise and communicate work priorities with personnel or confer with other department supervisors to assess progress and discuss needed changes.
  7. Revise production schedules as needed due to design changes, shortages, backlogs, or interruptions, collaborating with management, marketing, sales, production, or engineering.
  8. Coordinate with personnel, other departments, vendors, or customers to manage production or shipping activities and resolve delays or complaints.
  9. Monitor work processes to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
  10. Record production data, including volume, raw material consumption, and quality control measures.
  11. Calculate labor, material, and manufacturing costs using pricing schedules, calculators, or computers.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required; an associate degree, vocational or technical training, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Work ethic, integrity, and flexibility.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook); experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or ERP/MRP software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of APICS principles (certification or working knowledge) is desirable.
Additional Information

Knowledge required includes production, management, mathematics, English, customer service, and clerical skills. Skills include active listening, reading comprehension, critical thinking, monitoring, and problem solving. Abilities include oral and written comprehension, problem sensitivity, and vision. Physical activities involve climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, standing, and handling tools. Safety equipment must be worn as required.
