Job summary

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Support Coordinator to join the TY A cancer service. The role focuses on age-appropriate activities and support for young people aged 13-24 across paediatric, adult, and community settings.

The position is Band 5, part-time (30 hours/week), with some out-of-hours work, on a fixed-term basis ending 31 March 2027, and may involve travel around the region.

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent in relevant subject such as youth work, psychology or social sciences
• Degree or Post-graduate qualifications in Youth Work or similar
• Training relevant to area of work e.g. Counselling, Teaching, Play, Duke of Edinburgh Award leader, communication technology, youth participation
• Membership/registration with a youth worker group

Responsibilities

• Establish effective relationships with teenagers and young adults, using age-appropriate approaches
• Develop a programme of 1:1 and small-group diversionary activities for hospital settings
• Use motivational techniques to engage young people in their care plan and follow-up
• Contribute to transition programmes for teenagers in the children’s service
• Coordinate and provide 1:1 and group activities across hospital and non-hospital settings
• Maintain records of patient contacts and activities and ensure safeguarding requirements
