Job summary

South East Water is seeking a Microbiology Analyst for a 6-month fixed-term contract. The role involves performing complex microbiological analyses to detect faecal indicator bacteria and protozoa, within our modern laboratories.

You will maintain equipment, document results, and support the Microbiology and Cryptosporidium sections. The position is full-time (37 hours) with twilight shifts from 16:00 to 03:00, offering a 15% allowance.

Qualifications

• Relevant academic qualification or scientific subject at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.
• Willing to work towards full membership of a professional body.
• Excellent numeracy, literacy, computer literacy and laboratory skills to engage in robust analytical laboratory practice.
• Previous knowledge and/or experience of good laboratory practice.
• Flexible and able to perform duties within changing job profiles.

Responsibilities

• Ensure instrumentation is operated and analysis performed in line with the Laboratory Management system.
• Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Analyse and interpret data and complete laboratory paperwork.
• Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment.
• Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
• Ensure sample stability and turnaround for the given analyses.
