Tutors - SEMH / Therapeutic - East London

Ackerman Pierce works closely with local authorities to provide one-to-one tutoring for young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), who are unable to attend mainstream school. We are seeking experienced SEMH Tutors, SEN Tutors / SEN Teachers / Teachers / Tutors / HLTA's, with experience supporting young people with SEMH, ideally adopting a therapeutic approach.

We are recruiting KS3-KS4 teachers / tutors to support students from Upminster to Romford. Support in core subjects (Math, English, and Science) is required. These students have needs including SEMH, EBSA, school refusers, ASD, ADHD, and more. Previous SEMH / therapeutic experience is preferred.

  • Location - East London (Upminster - Romford)
  • Position - 1:1 SEMH tutor
  • Start date - ASAP
  • End date - Ongoing
  • Contract type - Temporary
  • Typical Hours - 2-3 hours per student, 5 days per week (Monday - Friday). Most tutors work with 2-3 students daily, totaling up to 35 hours weekly.
  • Rate of pay - from £25 per hour for unqualified tutors, up to £40 per hour for qualified teachers with SEMH / therapeutic experience.
  • Term Time Only
  • During School Hours Only

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Available during school hours, 10-30 hours per week.
  • Experienced in delivering differentiated National Curriculum core subjects.
  • Experienced in working with young people with complex needs including SEMH.
  • Therapeutic or trauma-informed experience.
  • Exceptional behaviour management strategies.
  • Prepared to work face-to-face within the community or family home.

Requirements

  • Background teaching English, Maths, or SEN classes.
  • Ex-therapists, CAMHs workers keen to explore tutoring.
  • QTS status (or equivalent) or unqualified with two years' experience teaching NC core subjects.
  • Experience working with SEMH and related needs.
