Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a SEND Specialist Tutor to work in Spennymoor, delivering 1:1 and small group tutoring for students with SEN. The role involves creating bespoke activities, reporting progress weekly, and maintaining a calm, inclusive learning environment.

Start date ASAP with flexible hours per pupil. Applicants should have UK classroom teaching experience and a relevant children-related education qualification, plus the ability to work in students’ homes or community learning

Responsibilities

• Support students with SEND through individual and small group sessions, developing self-confidence, independence, practical life skills, community awareness, and basic food preparation.
• Plan and deliver bespoke learning activities that meet individual needs and close gaps in learning.
• Assess and review learner progress on an ongoing basis, sharing clear and constructive feedback with students and their families.
• Establish a calm, positive, and inclusive learning space that encourages engagement and restores confidence in education.
• Record daily attendance accurately and complete structured weekly reports in line with requirements.

SEND Specialist Tutor

At Prospero Teaching, we work closely with local SEND teams and schools across the North East. We are currently looking for Specialist Tutors with experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), either on a 1:1 basis or in small group settings, in Spennymoor.

The Opportunity

While supporting students with their academic learning is an important part of the role, we are also looking for tutors who can provide the stability, structure and encouragement students need to build confidence and thrive in their day-to-day lives.

Tutors will also be required to complete detailed weekly reports outlining the student's progress, engagement and development. These reports will help us monitor progress and ensure that each student remains on track towards achieving their individual learning goals.

Contract/Position Details:

• Location - Spennymoor


• Position - SEND Specialist Tutor


• Type of work - Contract


• Start date - ASAP


• Setting - either within the student's home or in the community (learning hub/library)


• Duration - Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement


• Contract type - Temporary


• Full-time/part-time availability, ranging from 6-15hours p/w per student


• Rate of pay - up to 30 per hour (negotiable)

Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:

• Children related/Education qualification


• Possess UK classroom teaching experience


• Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box


• Have experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviours

To be eligible for this role, the potential SEND Specialist Tutor must:

• Hold the right to work in the UK


• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application

• Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
