A recruitment agency is seeking a Maths and English Tutor in Gateshead to support students who are disengaged from mainstream education. This role involves delivering personalized tuition to Key Stage 3 and 4 students, fostering a supportive and motivating learning environment. Ideal candidates should have experience with SEND, patience, and a dedication to helping students overcome barriers to learning. The position offers a pay rate of up to £30 per hour for a maximum of 6 hours weekly per student, with ongoing opportunities.

Formación

Maths and English Tutor

Are you a nurturing, patient, and compassionate individual with a passion for supporting students who are disengaged from mainstream education?

Prospero Teaching are seeking dedicated Tutors to support students who have been permanently excluded in the Gateshead area.

These young people are not currently accessing mainstream education as a result of being permanently excluded due to various reasons. We are looking for Tutors to work with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Permanently Excluded students, covering Maths and English, who can provide a safe, encouraging, and empowering learning environment to re‑engage them in their learning journey.

The Opportunity

You will be supporting young people on a 1‑1 or small group basis who are not currently accessing full time education for various reasons. Many of our young people have not attended school for some time and may have emotional barriers to learning. As a result, we are seeking nurturing Tutors with a patient, flexible approach and a passion for working closely with students to overcome barriers to learning.

Sessions will take place face to face either in a community setting or at the young persons home.

Your role with us

• Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Maths and English.
• Develop and implement personalised lesson plans that address individual learning gaps.
• Monitor student progress.
• Create a supportive and motivating learning environment to help students re‑build their confidence in learning.
• Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

Role details

• Pay rate up to £30 per hour depending on qualification and/or experience.
• Up to 6 hours per week per student.
• Start date: ASAP.
• Location: Gateshead.
• Duration: ongoing.
• Access to our Resource Hub, which includes learning materials.
• Access to CPD accredited courses and training.

To be eligible for the PEX Tutor role, you need

• Previous experience working with young people with SEND such as young people with ADHD, SEMH and students who have been permanently excluded – this role is great for those with previous experience within a PRU.
• Hold the right to work in the UK.
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application.
• Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment.
