English Functional Skills tutor 12 – 20 hours per week
Must be available for up to two evenings a week
Experience of teaching on accredited English Functional Skills courses essential

Responsibilities

  • Undertake teaching duties, including initial assessments of learners, identifying individual learning needs, referring to learning support as appropriate, and providing learner induction and tutorials.
  • Plan for teaching and learning, including preparing course outlines, schemes of work, lesson plans, and ensuring proper course documentation. Identify materials and resources needed, produce flexible learning materials, and undertake course reviews.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date class registers. Manage learner transfers and withdrawals in coordination with the curriculum team. Support learner retention, achievement, and progression. Monitor attendance and punctuality, taking appropriate actions.
  • Record and recognize learner progress and achievement, including marking work and maintaining individual learning plans. Provide achievement data to the curriculum team.
  • Assist with course accreditation, examinations, and assessments, including completing exam entry forms and recording learner outcomes.
  • Comply with safeguarding, Health and Safety, and GDPR regulations. Be familiar with emergency procedures and risk assessments.
  • Promote equal opportunities policies actively in the classroom and in learning materials.
  • Ensure classroom and equipment security.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings.
  • Undertake training as identified through management.
  • Participate in self-assessment and development planning.
  • Follow reasonable requests related to the teaching program made by the Service.

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
Knowledge and training in subject specialization e.g., CELTA, Trinity TESOL, or equivalent ELT/ESOL qualification.
Minimum L2 qualifications in English and maths.

Experience:
At least one year of teaching experience, preferably in a related sector.
Proven success in teaching and achieving outcomes.
Ability to follow processes and procedures effectively.
