About the Department

The Department of Natural Sciences spans the disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Geography. The Department delivers courses to over 1,500 students across and has over 80 members of academic staff with ambitious plans for excellent education and research. Our ethos is to be highly innovative in teaching and research and we are recognised as the sector leader in Degree Apprenticeships where we deliver Bioscience and Chemical Science programmes in collaboration with a wide range of companies. The Department has a long track record of obtaining research council, EU, charity and government funding and has a growing portfolio of impactful projects. The Department is in an exceptional space, housed in the Faculty\'s new Dalton Building at the heart of Manchester, and with strong research and teaching performance across the Department.

About the Role & Team

We are looking for candidates with expertise in animal behaviour and physiology, who will teach across our biology undergraduate, post graduate and degree apprenticeship provision. You\'ll also have the opportunity to drive education innovation within these programmes. Promoting the department, faculty and university by supporting a range of activities will be important too. The role is 0.4 FTE over 2 days a week, and is available from the start of November 2025 until the end of September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Within the workload allocated to their roles, tutors could potentially be asked to prepare and deliver lectures and practical activities; engage in the evaluation and development of units for which they have responsibility, in terms of content, delivery and assessment; or participate in campus and community events and study trips.

Key Skills & Experiences

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good first degree together with a PhD in a discipline relevant to animal behaviour and physiology.
  • Experience of teaching and supporting student learning, developing educational practice in the area of animal behaviour and physiology.
  • Sufficient breadth and/or depth of specialist knowledge of animal behaviour and physiology to work within established programmes
