Job summary

Thurrock Adult Community College, the local authority’s education arm, seeks a casual tutor to deliver English Functional Skills to learners who studied English at school. The role is not ESOL and requires planning, resource creation, teaching, marking, and feedback to help residents build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing.

Salary is hourly (£26.07–£29.72). Hours are variable and term-time only, with a permanent contract but casual engagement; base is in Grays (Old Court House).

Thurrock Adult Community College is the local authority's provider of adult education for Thurrock. Our main base is in the Old Court House in Grays, but we deliver courses across the borough.

Thurrock Adult Community College is seeking an engaging and committed individual to join us as a casual tutor for English. This role is an exciting opportunity to support Thurrock residents with English to develop their confidence in speaking, reading, and writing English. This is to teach Functional Skills English to learners who were taught English at school and not for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

You will be responsible for planning courses and lessons, creating resources, teaching lessons, marking learners' work, and providing developmental feedback.

Experience of teaching adults is required.

Essential Qualifications: You will have Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, a Level 3 award in Education and Training, and ideally an English teaching specialism at L4 or L5. If you do not have an English specialist qualification, you will be expected to work towards this within your first year of employment.

DBS Check: An Enhanced DBS check with children's barred list is required.
