Job description

Are you an experienced tutor or educator with a passion for supporting young people outside of mainstream education? We're currently seeking a dedicated and patient Tutorsto work 1:1 with students in South Ockendon, and surrounding areaswho require alternative provision.

About the Role:


As an AP Tutor, you'll provide personalised 1:1 tuition to students who are not currently in mainstream school. These learners may face challenges including SEMH needs, anxiety, exclusion, or other barriers to education. Your role is to re-engage them with learning and help them progress academically and personally.

Tutoring may take place at the student’s home, a designated community venue, or online.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored lessons in core subjects (e.g. English, Maths, Science)
  • Build rapport and trust with learners to help them feel safe and supported
  • Use creative strategies to encourage engagement and progress
  • Liaise with carers, schools and other professionals as needed
  • Monitor attendance and provide regular progress reports

What We’re Looking For:

  • Teaching or tutoring experience (QTS/QTLS preferred but not essential)
  • Experience working with disengaged or vulnerable young people
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • A calm, flexible, and empathetic approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain)
