About our School

Easthorpe School is an independent specialist provision serving children and young people in the East Midlands who live with their families, foster carers or in residential children's homes.

The school first opened its doors to pupils in November 2022 and we are expanding the team to support the increase in pupil numbers in the Lower School (7-13yrs) provision.

Class sizes do not exceed 6 pupils and are supported by a qualified class teacher with up to 2 teaching assistants.

Our school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and a range of diagnoses which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attachment needs and mild/moderate learning needs.

This job is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tutor/HLTA to help shape the growth and development of our new provision and enrich the lives of our pupils. This role will give you the chance to further develop your skills whilst giving you the opportunity to work in the most rewarding sector of education.

Role responsibilities

  1. To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Easthorpe School
  2. Work with members of the Education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
  3. To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
  4. To lead and plan for the classes during PPA and absence cover.
  5. To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
  6. To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
  7. To respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation
  8. To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
  9. To assist in the preparation of information relevant to the meetings about pupils
  10. To be an advocate for the ethos of Easthorpe School
  11. To lead on PE and DT within the school
  12. To help develop the role of Pupil Voice liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
  13. To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

  1. Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  2. Previous experience in a similar role, e.g., HLTA
  3. Previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  4. Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
  5. Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  6. Committed to professional development and willing to learn
  7. Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, cost of which will be met by Easthorpe School.
