Job summary

Polaris Education - Holdsworth SchoolTutor in Burnley, Lancashire is seeking a dedicated HLTA to support pupils with complex needs. This full-time role operates term-time, with a starting salary of 24,000 FTE and benefits including a company pension and life assurance.

You will assist in wellbeing, learning readiness, and behaviour support, lead in Reading and Phonics, and collaborate with the education team to help pupils progress.

Qualifications

• GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade C or equivalent.
• Previous HLTA experience preferred.
• Experience working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting.
• Willingness to take additional responsibilities in school areas such as Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, etc.
• Experience of behaviour management techniques.
• Commitment to professional development and learning.

Responsibilities

• Support wellbeing and readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management.
• Collaborate with the education team to aid pupils' personal and academic development.
• Promote positive learning behaviour among pupils.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning supported by teaching staff.
• Deliver enrichment activities during golden time.
• Assist in lessons with academic, pastoral or behavioural support.
• Respond promptly to concerns and clarify situations.
• Create and collate information on lessons and interventions.
• Assist in preparing information for meetings about pupils.
• Advocate Holdsworth School ethos.
• Lead on Reading and Phonics; review progress.
• Develop Pupil Voice; liaise with SLT about Pupil Council.
• Build relationships with parents/carers; participate in transitions and visits.

Role Responsibilities

• To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School
• Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
• To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
• To lead classes during PPA and absence cover. Planning will be supported by teaching staff
• To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
• To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
• To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
• To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
• To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
• To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
• To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
• To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
• To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
