Are you an enthusiastic Mechanical or Electrical Engineer ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have a strong background in the design and installation phases of large projects, with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills?

And thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy tackling new challenges?

The Opportunity

As the Joint Design Office (JDO) Turnkey Engineering Lead, you will report directly to the JDO Turnkey Engineering Manager and play a key role in leading a multi-disciplinary team responsible for addressing site queries, including design changes, non-conformance, and technical issues, within the multiple Turnkey (Design, Manufacture, Install, and Commission) contracts.

These contracts cover a large array of equipment including the Primary loop systems installation and commissioning, the Turbine Hall equipment and systems installation and commissioning, the diesel generators, as well as all the handling equipment including the refuelling machine and the polar crane.

You will support the Turnkey Engineering Manager and be responsible for providing technical responses to site queries and ensure the team is staffed with suitably qualified and experienced personnel to assess changes related to nuclear and environmental categorisation, as well as engineering design, throughout the construction phase.

You will work with great autonomy in interface with key Contractors' design offices, in a challenging commercial and technical context, leading an exciting team of professionals from all disciplines to ensure delivery of technical topics from start of construction to handover to operations, with a strong client positioning needed to review and accept design modifications on key systems.

Pay, benefits and culture

Starting from £64,000 depending on experience and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym membership, and season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility and support collaboration, connection, and comfort, whether you're in our office, on site, or working remotely. Our priority is to ensure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

We’re committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, aiming for a workforce that reflects a broad mix of backgrounds and experiences. We support your application and encourage you to request reasonable adjustments if needed.

What you’ll be doing

You will identify and manage resource requirements for the schedule, ensuring the team, consultants, and contractors adapt to evolving technical demands during construction. Additionally, you will oversee Operational Leads, ensuring they operate within their responsibilities, resolve technical queries focusing on safety, quality, and compliance, and identify and escalate risks.

You will contribute to continuous improvement of JDO processes and procedures, ensuring delivery excellence and decision-making support. You will lead the implementation of the NNB Zero Harm policy, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.

Who you are

You are a degree-qualified professional (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with proven leadership experience in the nuclear or another safety-critical sector. You have a strong track record of fostering collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including working in multicultural environments and resolving complex issues.

Extensive technical knowledge, including understanding of design, design processes, and design management, is essential. Experience in the nuclear industry is highly desirable. You are a strategic thinker capable of navigating technical challenges and contributing to successful project delivery in safety-critical contexts.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 27th July. Interviews will follow shortly after. Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which requires UK residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
