Job summary

RCV Engines Ltd in Ferndown, Dorset, is seeking a Turbine Specialist to join our growing team. The role focuses on micro turbine engines, including assembly, testing and problem solving, with opportunities to train others and contribute to engineering development.

You will work in an in-office environment with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and precise workmanship, supporting our production and R&D activities as we expand.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent vocational training and experience may be considered.
  • Desirable knowledge of Microturbine engines and jet engine components.

Responsibilities

  • Lead turbine specialist: assemble/dis-assemble, test and troubleshoot miniature jet turbine engines.
  • Test and report on engine performance, record data and resolve issues.
  • Train and support the wider workforce, assisting recruitment as production grows.
  • Inspect components and record any dimensional or quality concerns.
  • Assemble engine sub-assemblies and final assemblies per engineering drawings.
  • Perform engine test and calibration procedures per customer requirements.
  • Service, overhaul and fault-diagnose engines, recommending repairs or upgrades.
  • Prepare engines for shipment with cleaning, packing and documentation.

Salary range: £45,000- £50,000 per annum

RCV Engines Ltd develops and manufactures engines for Uncrewed Vehicles utilising its own patented technology as well as other propulsion technologies. As part of our current expansion programme, we now have a vacancy for a specialist Turbine Specialist. This is an opportunity to join a small friendly Company in this exciting industry, at the beginning of a significant period of growth with opportunities for advancement and extending your skill set.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented Turbine Specialist who has strong understanding of Micro Turbine type engines. The successful candidate will have knowledge / education relating to the ‘first principles’ of Microturbine Engines, and a good understanding of how they work. With a bachelor’s Degree an advantage, but not essential, in this role you will assemble / dis-assemble, test and problem solve, miniature jet turbine engines whilst testing and reporting on each engine’s performance.

With additional technical expertise available, you will play a lead role in resolving problems and in turn train and support the establishment of skills within the wider workforce.

Key Responsibilities
  • To become established as RCV’s lead turbine specialist. Assemble / dis-assemble, test and problem solve, miniature jet turbine engines.
  • To test and report on each engine’s performance, escalating issues and recording performance data in accordance with design requirements and playing a lead role in resolving problems.
  • To train and support the establishment of skills within the wider workforce, playing an active role in recruiting additional staff as production increases
  • Complete and record Component Inspection, escalating any concerns or issues where any component fails to meet the required dimensions, features and standards
  • Assemble engine sub-assemblies and final assemblies according to Engineering Specifications and Drawings and following the required process and procedures. Pay attention to detail and elevate any issues that arise to your line manager or a more senior technician.
  • Carry out Engine test and calibration procedures in line with the specified requirement for each engine and customer.
  • Carry out Servicing, overhaul and fault diagnosis on new and used engines. Completing assessments and recommendations for required repair or refurbishment / upgrades.
  • Carry out cleaning a preparation tasks, to make engines ready for shipment, including packing and documentation according to the standards set.
  • Play an active role in the R&D / Prototyping process as required and / or requested from the Line Manager and contracted Jet Turbine experts
  • Work in an efficient and methodical way, paying attention to Safety, Product Quality and Product Specifications, reporting any concerns and non-conformances quickly to your manager.
  • Apply a high level of tidiness and cleanliness to your workstation, taking due care of all equipment and maintaining an organised and tidy workspace.
  • Use and operate appropriate equipment and processes according to the Instructed Methods and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the final product is always completed in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Play an active role in supporting the recruitment of new technicians, training and supporting new members of the team as they become established in the business
  • Report results of non-conformance and audits to the departments Manager or Supervisor to promote continuous improvement and problem solving.
  • Follow and comply with Company Quality Standards, Policies and Procedures to ensure that Site Standards, Product Integrity and Due Diligence are maintained.
  • To perform any other related duties and to work flexibly when required in order to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Science based subject (including vocational / experience) is desirable
  • Equivalent vocational training and experience may also be considered
