Job description

We need a highly experienced Tunnelling Shift Manager to take full operational and safety control of a tunnelling shift at Hinkley Point C. This is a senior-level role for an individual comfortable managing all technical delivery and production targets in a high-compliance nuclear environment. Tunnelling experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Control: Full responsibility for shift delivery, ensuring tunnelling and underground works meet all production targets and deadlines.

  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce the highest standards of safety (including TSTS and Nuclear standards) to ensure Zero Harm on shift.

  • Technical Management: Manage setting out, Quality Control (QA), and installation of all primary and secondary tunnel linings, rock support, and grouting operations.

  • Team Leadership: Direct and manage all shift resources, including labour and specialist subcontractors, for optimum efficiency.

  • Reporting: Ensure accurate completion of all shift reports, QIRs (Quality Inspection Reports), and handover documentation.

Candidate Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Shift Manager or Senior Engineer on hard rock tunnelling or deep underground civil engineering projects.

  • Essential Certification: Must hold SMSTS and the Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS).

  • Strong technical background in underground surveying, ground support, and RC lining procedures.
