Job summary

Forth Ports Limited seeks an experienced Tug Master to operate ASD/ATD/Voith Harbour Tugs across Scotland, with flexibility to travel to Forth, Leith or other sites. You will lead safety, training and maintenance activities, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective crew leadership in demanding marine environments.

The role offers a full-time contract with rota options, competitive salary, private medical insurance, and a generous pension.

Qualifications

• Experienced Tug Master with Master 500gt certification.
• Harbour Towage experience is essential.
• Offshore towage experience is desirable.
• Strong leadership, delegation and teamwork skills.
• Excellent Health, Safety & Risk Management awareness.
• Full UK working rights.

Responsibilities

• Command the vessel in accordance with Regulations and SMS.
• Conduct onboard annual SMS reviews and propose improvements.
• Ensure all Rules, Regulations and Publications are onboard and in-date.
• Maintain correct manning as per Flags and regulations.
• Oversee crew familiarisation, induction and on‑the‑job training.
• Draft and test contingency plans for onboard emergencies.
• Conduct inspections under MMS and safety drills under SMS/Regulations.
• Oversee routine maintenance per MMS and recordkeeping.
• Investigate non-conformities, near misses and accidents.
• Prepare monthly vessel and crew reports as required.
