Job summary

Svitzer Americas is seeking an experienced Tug Master for their London operation. The role is hands-on, focusing on the safe and efficient operation of the tug. Candidates must possess a Master <500GT Certificate of Competency and have experience in towage. The position includes a competitive salary of £70,722.46 per annum, a permanent time-for-time contract, and benefits such as pension matching and life cover. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, confidence in stakeholder interaction, and the right to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Master <500GT Certificate of Competency (minimum)
• Valid ENG1 and STCW certification (minimum of six months on all certifications)
• Harbour or terminal towage experience – essential
• Experience with ASD and/or Voith propulsion systems
• Strong communication skills
• Solid administrative skills and comfort with computer-based systems
• UK Driving Licence
• The right to live and work in the UK

Responsibilities

• Handle assisted ships safely and decisively in confined waters
• Set the safety standard on board and ensure it’s lived
• Lead and develop your crew, creating a culture of trust
• Maintain vessel readiness, documentation, and operational reporting
• Work closely with Port Managers and Harbour Pilots
• Take ownership of your vessel
