Overview of Role

Play a key role in the assembly and fabrication of large x-ray tubes. The role will primarily involve the running of all facets of the welding process in the tube production area. The Welder will be responsible for the operation of the clean room welding plant and the recruitment, assessment, and training of all welders within the tube assembly department. The Welder will also be responsible for all safety related processes and compliance associated with the welding process (Compressed gasses, COSH, HSE etc.). Additionally, the Welder will support the manufacturing engineer in promoting continuous improvement within the tube assembly process to reduce assembly times whilst monitoring quality and output.

Responsibilities

1. Take responsibility for the training and performance of all welders operating in the cleanroom.
2. Be responsible for H & S of all welding personnel and processes.
3. Ensure the welding skill base is developed to ensure the tube assembly process is always supported.
4. Maintain the clean room environment to avoid particulate contamination and to ensure the highest possible standards of cleanliness.
5. Review and contribute to the development of work instructions and assembly checklists.
6. Participate and promote production improvement initiatives.
7. Be completely familiar with all assembly tasks in the tube assembly area.

1. Flexibility - will have sufficient knowledge to be capable of standing in for other technicians working in different areas of the tube production.
2. Independence - to be able to work without supervision.
3. Initiative – to make considered decisions and take appropriate actions where required.
4. Discipline - to ensure maintenance of best possible working practice within the clean rooms.
5. Fastidiousness - Great attention to detail is required to maintain the highest standards of mechanical assembly.

Qualifications

1. Extensive clean-room experience.
2. Proven experience in UHV technology.
3. Proven experience in TIG welding processes.
4. Previous experience working in a clean room.
5. 5s and process improvement experience an advantage.
6. Ability to coach TIG welding trainees to an appropriate level to support tube production.
7. Knowledge of all facets of manufacturing processes.
8. Trained in all aspects of compressed gas handling.
9. UHV leak checking experience essential.

HNC or ONC in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and/or suitable work experience would be desirable but is not essential.
