Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an Analyst for TSE (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) to join our fantastic team at our site based in Birchwood Park. This is a truly exciting time to begin or continue your career with our first-class business, as a TSE Analyst. The role comprises the examination of animal tissue for the presence of indicators of TSE using a documented European Commission approved procedure. This role is specific to the methods and processes used in the analysis of brainstem samples submitted for testing and also includes some in-team support tasks, including, but not limited to, laboratory cleaning and reagent preparation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The successful candidate will also be expected to carry out the following:

  • Undertake testing and documentation of samples with minimal supervision, as per standard operating procedures to required timescales, following suitable training and demonstrable competencies.
  • Maintenance of and adherence to safety and quality systems.
  • To undertake support tasks as required by management. Assisting with laboratory housekeeping duties including preparation of reagents, maintenance of equipment and laboratory cleaning.
  • Be responsible for the integrity and traceability of samples.
  • Communicate with colleagues as appropriate throughout the testing process and associated tasks.
  • To contribute to an effective level of service to customers.
Qualifications

We are looking for someone with well-developed practical skills and a strong commitment to work at the bench in a high throughput laboratory. They will need to be able to work well as a member of a team and collaborate closely with colleagues performing similar roles. GLP is paramount in this working environment to ensure the integrity and traceability of the sample types received for testing. A major function will be to carry out analyses according to the approved protocol for sample preparation and analytical methodology prescribed (ELISA). A practical background in the analysis of biological materials is advantageous but not essential as training will be provided. Experience of LIMS would be advantageous. The successful candidate should:

  • Demonstrate ownership of issues that arise day to day, escalating only when necessary

  • Exhibit high levels of concentration, accuracy and reliability
  • Able to manage a demanding workload; show good organisational skills and high levels of personal resilience with the ability to work to deadlines under pressure
  • Communicate and work co-operatively with others, focussing on a collective rather than individual goals
  • Demonstrate initiative, adopting a pro-active attitude to continuous improvement

Additional Information

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police personnel vetting standards (NPPV/3 and SC), as such any criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance.
