2. JOB PURPOSE

To provide strategic leadership for trusts, foundations and funding relationships, securing significant grant income that enables Blythswood to deliver its mission and strategic priorities.

Working across the organisation, the postholder will develop long-term funding relationships, identify new funding opportunities and contribute to strategic planning, helping strengthen Blythswood's long-term financial sustainability.

5. MAIN TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Develop and implement Blythswood's trusts and grantfundraising strategy
  • Christian mission, ethos and strategic priorities
  • Monitor funding trends and identify emerging opportunities

Contribute to strategic planning through knowledge of the funding landscape and an understanding of how Blythswood's Christian mission informs its programme, priorities and funding decisions

  • Provide regular reports on funding performance, pipeline development and future opportunities

Trusts and grant fundraising

  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of trusts, foundations and grant‑making organisations
  • Identify, research and pursue new funding opportunities
  • Lead the preparation and submission of high‑quality funding applications
  • Develop compelling cases for support that clearly demonstrates how faith, compassion and practical action are integral to its work
  • Ensure when assessing funder requirements that conditions are consistent with Blythswood's Christian ethos and values and align with organisational priorities
  • Work towards agreed income targets and KPIs

Strategic relationships

  • Build strong, long‑term relationships with trusts, foundations and grant‑making bodies
  • Develop opportunities for repeat and multi‑year funding
  • Represent Blythswood in meetings with existing and prospective funders, communicating its Christian mission and values confidently
  • Build relationships with Christian trusts and foundations and be able to discuss Blythswood's faith and purpose
  • Strengthen Blythswood's reputation through excellent stewardship and relationship management
  • Produce good quality proposals for High Net Worth Donors that communicate both the practical and spiritual impact, for the Chief Executive to use in relationship building
4. Cross-organisational working

Work closely with the Chief Executive, Communications and Engagement team, Finance team, International Partnerships and other departments to identify funding Christian mission and strategic priorities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop projects suitable for grant funding
  • Work closely with international partners to identify funding opportunities and develop projects that meet funder priorities
  • Work with the Finance team to prepare accurate grant budgeting, monitoring and reporting

Provide cover for other team members, when required, delivering presentations to churches and Christian audiences and communicating Blythswood's Christian mission and work clearly and confidently

5. Reporting and stewardship
  • Produce high-quality reports for trusts and foundations
  • Ensure all reporting deadlines are met
  • Demonstrate the impact of funded projects through compelling written reports and evidence
  • Maintain accurate records of funding applications, grants and reporting requirements within the CRM system
6. Financial planning and performance
  • Maintain and monitor the funding pipeline

Contribute to annual income forecasting

  • Monitor progress against agreed income targets
  • Provide regular updates on funding opportunities, risks and performance
