Job Opportunity: Trust Specialty Registrar in Spinal Cord Injury

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is offering a Trust Specialty Registrar vacancy in Spinal Cord Injury, available from 06.08.2025 to 04.08.2026.

This is a fixed-term 12-month contract with potential for extension, based at the renowned National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the birthplace of the Paralympics.

About the NSIC
  • A purpose-built spinal centre with 102 beds for acute admissions, readmissions, and rehabilitation.
  • Provides comprehensive services to the South of England and Midlands, handling 130-150 new spinal injury cases annually.
  • Facilities include acute, readmission, and rehabilitation wards, plus a dedicated Young Person’s ward for paediatric and adolescent patients.
  • Outpatient department reviews around 3,000 patients yearly, supported by outreach services and regular multidisciplinary meetings.
Candidate Requirements
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience post-internship or FY2 training.
  • Full GMC registration to practice in the UK.
Role Responsibilities
  • Provide senior clinical input for spinal cord injury patients across all ages.
  • Supervise junior staff and contribute to teaching programs.
  • Engage in clinical governance and adhere to spinal cord injury medicine standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team activities and implementation of relevant national frameworks.

Job Details

The role involves a 40-hour week with clinical, management, teaching, and governance activities, including covering adult, adolescent, and paediatric wards. The job plan is flexible and open to discussion.

On-call duties are shared on a 1 in 6 pattern, compliant with EWTD, with additional responsibilities in major incidents.

Training and Professional Development

Support for study leave, mandatory training, appraisals, and tailored development plans is provided. The Clinical Tutor is available for guidance on professional growth.

Accountability

The postholder reports to the Directorate Clinical Chair and General Manager, with professional accountability also to the Clinical Chair.

Additional Information
