Job description

Vacancy: Trust Specialty Registrar in Urology

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has a vacancy at Trust Specialty Registrar level. The post is vacant from August 2025 until August 2026 and is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.

The successful applicant will join the middle tier rota in this popular teaching department. The post is ideal for registrar-level candidates seeking more urology experience and support from a team of consultants in a busy unit. The department offers a broad mix of core urology, including HoLEP, ureterorenoscopy, TURP, and subspecialties such as robotic renal surgery, pyeloplasty, radical prostatectomy, PCNL, mini-supine PCNL, and andrology. Candidates aiming to strengthen their experience before obtaining a specialist training number are encouraged to apply, with a proven track record of fellows progressing successfully at the National Selection.

The role involves participation in a 1:7 on-call rota, which is non-residential.

Requirements and Duties
  1. Hold Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.
  2. Cover elective (Wycombe) and emergency (Stoke Mandeville) activities.
  3. Participate in approximately 7 full-day operating lists per week at Wycombe, covering robotic, open, laparoscopic, and endoscopic surgeries.
  4. Attend theatre programmed with hands-on teaching from consultants to develop operative competencies.
  5. Engage in daily ward rounds and inpatient reviews for the emergency service, which is consultant-led.
  6. Attend a dedicated emergency list every Thursday morning and other emergency sessions as needed.
  7. Gain exposure to neuro-urology and the National Spinal Injuries Centre, with experience in LA transperineal prostate biopsy being desirable.
  8. Contribute to management responsibilities, including rota coordination, quality improvement projects, and teaching.
Additional Information

The post is suitable for Pre-FRCS candidates with extensive registrar experience in urology. The department offers a supportive environment with tailored supervision and training based on experience. Opportunities for exposure to various specialties are available to support future CCT applications.
