We provide a full range of acute clinical services from Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry. We are a designated cancer centre and have recently invested in a number of additional specialist services, including in-patient renal services and interventional cardiology. All elective inpatients and emergency admissions are screened for MRSA. As part of our work to improve clinical outcomes we are taking part in a national patient safety programme and have invested in systems to capture patients views on the service we provide. Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trust Grade Vascular Surgical Registrar (ST3 level) to join our established team at Northampton General Hospital for a 12-monht fixed-term post.

The successful candidate will work within the Northamptonshire Vascular Service, a dynamic and consultant-led unit delivering high-quality care across a full range of vascular procedures, including complex arterial surgery and emergency care.

The post offers excellent opportunities for surgical exposure, ward-based care, clinics, and operating theatres, while working closely with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, registrars, resident doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.

This role is ideal for candidates seeking further experience in vascular surgery within a supportive and forward-thinking department.

The post holder will support the vascular surgical consultants in delivering high-quality patient care across ward rounds, operating theatres, outpatient clinics, and emergency admissions.

Responsibilities include participating in daily consultant-led ward rounds, undertaking theatre duties, contributing to outpatient services, and taking part in the general/vascular on-call registrar rota (1 in 10).

The role also involves documenting clinical findings, admitting patients from the Emergency Department, and supporting junior colleagues. In addition, the registrar will be expected to engage in clinical governance, quality improvement projects, audit and teaching activities, and uphold the Trust's values in all aspects of patient care and teamwork.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

To act under the supervision of the Surgical Consultants in the provision of a Surgical service and to support the Surgical Consultants in their duties.

Daily ward rounds with the vascular surgical team.

Operating theatre duties as assigned.

Outpatient clinics

General/Vascular on call on registrar rota (1in 10)

To admit patients from the Emergency Department

Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.

To contribute to quality improvement; risk management initiatives and policy development so that the overall Surgical Service is of the highest quality.

To assist in the education of colleagues and staff.

To participate in work related projects at NGH

To act and behave professionally and perform ones duties in a manner that optimises patient care and protects and enhances the reputation of NGH

To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.

To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital and acting as a resource for more junior colleagues.
