This trust doctor post in Anaesthesia and ITU is available from August 2025 for 12 months (with a possible extension for a total of 23 months).

The successful candidate will work within our on-call rotas covering CEPOD, Obstetrics and Intensive Care. There will be the opportunity to cover elective surgical lists across the spectrum of clinical anaesthesia in a district general hospital during their time within the department.

The duties will include pre, intra and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with the care of the patients on the ITU, a full range of obstetric anaesthesia and on-call work, including resuscitation calls. This post will offer training opportunities as per the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine training guidance.

Main duties of the job

The majority of your clinical time during working hours will be allocated to elective and emergency/trauma theatre sessions, sometimes under the supervision of a more Senior Anaesthetist, but may be allocated an operating list without direct supervision (depending on prior experience).

The duties will include pre, intra and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls.

The post holder may be involved in teaching and supervision of other doctors and medical students, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

The post holder will be expected to participate in all aspects of the on-call rotas. The department manages three tiers of cover - Theatre, Obstetrics and ITU and rotation through any and all of these disciplines is expected of the candidate, as required to meet the needs of the department. All rotas are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments to this contract.
