The Women’s and Children’s Division is seeking an enthusiastic Trust Doctor (ST3 +) who wishes to pursue career in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing their career within the department.

NUH Obstetrics & Gynaecology are very proud to serve this diverse local community, and this is an exciting time to be part of the team. Our maternity services have just successfully met all 10 of the essential safety standards required in the Maternity Incentive Scheme to improve the quality of care for women, families and newborns. The hospital is the site of approximately 5,800 births annually, and deals with a wide range of gynaecological pathology. The size of the O&G department is considerable, when compared to the relatively small size of the hospital, and offers exceptional training opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The Trust Doctor ST3+ will have duties similar to Specialist Registrar year 3-7, working under the guidance of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant.

The postholder will be covering a variable range of duties in both obstetrics and gynaecology. These include acute obstetric cover, acute gynaecology cover, obstetric and gynaecology ward rounds, ward cover, elective obstetric theatre and gynaecology theatre, elective antenatal and gynaecology clinics, and Maternity triage/ Maternity Assessment Unit. Presence in the hospital is required for all shifts.

The rolling rota will be provided prior to commencement of the post. A weekly rota is sent out each Friday, detailing daily duties.

The post holder will be expected to be independent in the performance of caesarean section, instrumental vaginal delivery and surgical management of miscarriage.

They are expected to attend and manage patients in the antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinic. They are expected to attend operating lists, and manage the patients post operatively under the guidance of the consultant.

The College Tutor for Obstetrics & Gynaecology is currently Ms Zakia Balghari, who is available to trainees for educational and careers advice. The postholder will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor and will be appraised at 4 monthly intervals, and is required to engage with the Barts Health appraisal system – PReP.

  • MB BS (or equivalent).
  • Registration with the GMC.

Experience
