Job description

Main duties of the job

Barts Heart Centre is Europe's largest cardiac centre. It houses one of the world's largest cardiac MRI services along with all other advanced imaging modalities utilizing 3 cardiac MRI scanners, a dedicated cardiac CT scanner and 10 echocardiography labs.

Specialised cardiology services include the internationally-recognised cardio-oncology and heart muscle disease services, the regional infective endocarditis service and the adult congenital heart disease service.

The advanced heart failure service includes a VAD programme, ECMO service on the specialised heart-failure ITU and CRT device clinics. It is also the heart attack centre for the region and also provides invasive and structural cardiology services and emergency arrythmia services as well as ablation therapies in 10 cardiac cath labs.

Job responsibilities

These posts provide exposure to a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions and are suitable for those with a good grounding in general cardiology who wish to gain experience in advanced imaging/specialised cardiology.

The Barts imaging/specialised clinical fellow post has a track record of successfully transitioning many fellows into cardiology consultant posts across the UK and internationally.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Current Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MRCP UK (or Equivalent)

Desirable

  • Certification/accreditation in cardiac imaging (any modality)/inherited cardiac disease/cardio-oncology /heart failure
  • Current ALS certification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in general cardiology at ST3+ level (e.g. independent in transthoracic echocardiography, comfortable in managing acutely unwell cardiology patients on the wards)

Desirable

  • Previous experience in advanced cardiac imaging

Essential

  • The applicant must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major principles of the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2006) including: Good clinical care
