Applications from experienced, enthusiastic, and dynamic clinicians are invited for a Paediatric & Neonatal Clinical Fellow SHO level post at Newham University Hospital (NUH).

The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children's division at NUH, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

To be considered, you must have full GMC Registration and it is desirable to hold MRCPCH or equivalent. You should have appropriate training and experience in general paediatrics and neonatology.

The Paediatric rainbow centre is a busy department caring for a deprived and young paediatric population. It includes a 21-bed Paediatrics ward, 7 cubicles, a two-bed well-equipped HDU, a 6-bed day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years, an observational unit, and a total of 23 beds including 2 intensive and 4 HDU care beds.

Main duties of the job

The Level II Neonatal unit cares for babies born at more than 27 weeks. We work collaboratively with the tertiary unit at the Royal London Hospital. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to manage their workload efficiently and work well under pressure. The post is based at NUH, providing acute general paediatrics and neonatal services to a diverse, rapidly growing population.

The department has separate neonatal and paediatric rotas, each with a consultant, middle grade, and SHO doctors.

The Trust employs over 9,500 multidisciplinary staff across five hospital sites, serving the North East London population with acute general hospital services.

Job responsibilities

This is a Trust Clinical Fellow SHO level post, suitable for doctors pursuing a career in Paediatrics and neonatal care. The Trust supports career development in Paediatrics. This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 6 months and is a trust grade position.

Daytime Clinical Duties include ward rounds, outpatient clinics, A&E, and coverage for labor and postnatal wards under consultant supervision on a consultant-of-the-week system.

On-call commitments involve a full shift system, 1:9 in neonatology and 1:9 in general paediatrics, covering NICU, delivery suite, postnatal ward, paediatric ward, and A&E.

There are separate rotas for Paediatric and Neonatal registrars at all levels, including Consultants, Registrars, and SHOs.
