Trust doctor in General Medicine (ST1)

Applicants are invited to apply for an ST1 Trust Doctor post in General Medicine across our Acute site William Harvey Hospital. This post will be fixed term for 12 months.

Within the General and Specialist Medicine Care group are departments including Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Health Care of Older People, Neurology, Renal, Rheumatology, and Respiratory.

Applicants must have full GMC registration with a license to practice and have completed the UK foundation programme or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to cover for the absence of colleagues (including on-call cover) at short notice, e.g., sickness. Cover outside the rota requiring extra hours of work will be paid at nationally agreed rates and coordinated to ensure compliance with relevant legislation. The post holder will actively participate in training junior medical staff, supervise, educate, and assist medical students. Participation in clinical audits, journal clubs, and departmental teaching sessions is expected. Regular appraisals will be conducted, and engagement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is required.

Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration
  • Completion of at least four years postgraduate training, with at least two years in a relevant training programme
  • Recent experience in general or specialist medicine roles
  • Proficiency in English with qualifications such as PLAB, IELTS (academic), or GCSE English Language at Grade B or above
  • Possession of primary or final specialty qualification
  • Related Registrar experience in various medicine specialties
Clinical/Technical Expertise
  • Basic Medical Qualification (e.g., MBBS or MB ChB), MRCP, ALS
  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge, skills, and IT expertise
  • Holistic patient care approach and teamwork skills
  • Ability to utilize evidence-based medicine and clinical audits for decision-making
  • Expertise in at least one field within the specialty
  • Completion of APLS/EPLS provider course
