Job summary
Applications are invited for the above posts to commence on a rolling basis from 1st May 2025 for 9 to 12 months in the first instance, at The Royal London Hospital (RLH).The posts are intended to provide critical care experience in an acute adult critical care unit providing both HDU and ITU level care, to trainees with a minimum of 2 years Anaesthetic experience interested in a career in Critical Care Medicine, who will have the opportunity to participate in educational activities, training, audit and research within the department of Critical Care Medicine.
There are 2 types of posts. The first are 12 month long Specialist ICM posts with interests in either Trauma or Critical Care Follow up. The holders of these posts will receive dedicated clinical time to pursue projects related to these sub-specialty interests. The second are 18 month long CESR posts for trainees with significant experience in Anaesthesia (minimum 2 years) and Critical Care medicine. These posts offer the possibility to achieve documentary evidence in 11 of the 14 HiLos required for CESR accreditation in Intensive Care Medicine with the GMC. The 18 months would include 12 months General, Neuro and Trauma Adult Critical Care on the Adult Critical Care Unit at RLH, 3 months of Paediatric Critical Care at the PICU in RLH, and 3 months of Cardiac Critical Care ate Barts Hospital.
Main duties of the jobThe Royal London Hospital (RLH) forms part of Barts and The London NHS Trust. The ACCU (Adult Critical Care Unit ) is a 44 bedded critical care unit in the brand new hospital into which the Royal London moved in December 2011. The ACCU accepts referrals for medical and surgical patients requiring level 2 and 3 care. The hospital receives tertiary referrals for a number of Medical Specialties including Neurology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Renal and Stroke Medicine. In addition, there is a 12 bedded Surgical HDU for hi risk post-op elective admissions from surgical specialties such as hepatobiliary surgery, upper and lower GI tract surgery, major vascular, maxillofacial, Neuro and ENT surgery.The RLH is the base hospital for the London's Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and the NE London Stroke Referral Unit. The Accident & Emergency Department caters for over 100,000 patients every year.
