We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated doctor at ST1 level or above who would like to gain experience in the management of ambulatory medical patients and develop a specialist interest in Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) & Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). This is a 1 year fixed term post starting NO LATER THAN 30th September.
The appointee will become an essential part of the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) & Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit that is led by the Acute Medicine team. You will work under consultant supervision within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and efficient ambulatory care for patients with acute care needs who do not require admission to hospital. The team has a close and excellent working relationship with our Emergency Department and local GPs
It would suit applicants with previous experience in acute and general medicine or training in any acute specialty (emergency medicine / acute medicine / intensive care medicine) who also have a keen interest in ultrasound.
This fellowship is intended to provide the applicant with the training required for accreditation(s) in Point of Care Ultrasound. These can be all FAMUS modules and/or FUSIC modules.

Main duties of the job
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
To work flexibly to cover the needs of the Department.
Assisting with teaching and training of junior staff and medical students.
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
To gain experience in the acute and chronic management of all ambulatory medical patients

The post-holder will receive training in accordance with the FAMUS curriculum with a view to get accredited at least in two modules in under 6 months, thereafter contributing to the training of their peers and maintaining their skills. Further modular imaging competencies are offered which can include any recognised national curriculum. Dedicated time is offered for regular hands-on training, particularly to practice: vascular access, DVT, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, regional blocks, insertion of central line and the most modern high quality simulator Body-work Eve with the heart 3D module. Additionally, collaboration with other specialties like cardiology, EM, radiology and intensive care are viable. These skills will be valuable for the post-holders future clinical practice and enhance their career prospects as currently highly desirable skills.
This post will involve both clinical commitments on our Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) alongside asubstantial commitment to learning acute point of care imaging.
