Job description

Day to day, you will be maintaining and operating the sewer network and its associated assets, carrying out basic mechanical maintenance and fault finding. The work involves confined space access and working in some of London’s most challenging subterranean areas.

What you’ll be doing as a Trunk Sewer Technician
  • Complete planned, emergency, and defect maintenance of the trunk sewer network.
  • Perform physical maintenance of the sewer network and assets, such as penstock gates.
  • Operate plant and equipment.
  • Conduct cleaning, basic maintenance, and fault-finding tasks.
  • Note: The role requires working in confined spaces, at heights, and lifting heavy loads; training will be provided.

Base location: Hammersmith (PS), W6 9RS

Working hours: 38 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 6:30 am – 3:45 pm; with 1 week out of 5 on night shift from 9:00 pm - 5:30 am; includes standby rota with additional pay.

What you should bring to the role

  • Experience in maintenance, especially mechanical, is advantageous; qualifications are desirable.
  • You must be physically fit and willing to work in challenging environments, performing manual handling activities.
  • Proactive, team-oriented, and able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
  • A valid UK driving license is preferred; HGV training can be provided.
  • Willing to work shifts, including nights, and participate in out-of-hours call-out rota.
  • For safety, you must be clean-shaven to wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
