Job summary

We are recruiting an experienced Tree Inspector / Arboricultural Surveyor to join a busy environmental services team in Walsall. The role focuses on inspecting and managing a significant tree stock and ensuring trees are managed safely and appropriately.

Key responsibilities include day-to-day inspections, risk-based decision making, maintaining the Tree Inventory, and supporting woodland management plans and funding bids. The position is on-site with roughly 3 days/week on site.

Qualifications

• Strong practical experience in arboriculture and tree inspections.
• Knowledge of urban forestry and arboricultural practices.
• Level 3 Tree Inspection Certificate or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in arboriculture or related field.
• IOSH accreditation or ability to meet standard.
• Full UK driving licence and Driver CPC.
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate inspection and tree-management records.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day inspections and surveys of tree stock.
• Make tree risk management decisions and prioritise works.
• Inspect trees, groups and woodlands.
• Maintain the Tree Inventory database.
• Make recommendations after inspections of high-amenity trees.
• Assist with arboricultural operations management.
• Support the Tree Risk Management programme.
• Survey woodlands and support woodland management plans.
• Respond to urgent tree-work requests.
• Provide arboricultural advice to customers and teams.
• Attend site inspections, consultations and meetings.

The Role

• Inspecting individual trees, groups of trees and woodlands.
• Maintaining and updating the Tree Inventory database.
• Making recommendations following inspections of high-amenity trees.
• Assisting with the management of arboricultural operations.
• Supporting the Tree Risk Management programme.
• Surveying and assessing woodlands.
• Assisting with woodland management plans and funding bids.
• Responding to urgent tree-work requests.
• Providing specialist arboricultural advice to customers and other teams.
• Attending site inspections, consultations and public meetings where required.
• Supporting quotations, tenders and estimates for arboricultural works.

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have:

Strong practical experience within the arboriculture industry. Experience carrying out tree inspections. Good knowledge of urban forestry and arboricultural practices. Level 3 Tree Inspection Certificate or equivalent. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in arboriculture, grounds maintenance, green spaces or a related environmental discipline. IOSH accreditation or the ability to meet the required standard. Full UK driving licence. Driver CPC. Good Health & Safety knowledge. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Ability to maintain accurate inspection and tree-management records.

The role requires approximately 3 days per week on site, with the selection process conducted via a Teams interview.
