Dueto upcoming retirement and maternity leave, we are seeking a compassionate,motivated, and experienced TreatmentRoom Nurse to join ourfriendly and supportive team. St JamesMedical Centre and Orchard Medical Centre are busy and progressive GP practicesin the Centre of Taunton with a branch site in Norton Fitzwarren.

Thisis a part-time role working 20 hours per week across Wednesday,Thursday, and Fridays, providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing carewithin our well-equipped treatment rooms.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Wound care and dressings

Immunisations (including flu, shingles, travel, and childhoodvaccines)

Venepuncture

ECGs and blood pressure monitoring

Removal of sutures and clips

Health promotion and screening

Support for chronic disease management (as appropriate)

To support thepractice nurse team with the provision of routine treatment room procedures andto provide a one stop near patient testing service for anticoagulationmonitoring.

B. MAJOR DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

Provision ofgeneral nursing duties to include:

-phlebotomyand testing specimens

-wound careand management of skin conditions

-assistingwith minor ops

-earwashouts

-givingimmunisations and vaccinations

-electrocardiography

-bloodpressure measurement

-performingtravel assessments and giving NHS travel vaccines

Provision ofanticoagulation monitoring enhanced service (known as level 4) through nearpatient testing and use of dosage decision making software programme (INR star).

Promote goodhealth and the prevention of illness by advice on diet and lifestyle

First aidmanagement of emergencies e.g. respiratory, burns, haemorrhage, shock andcardiac arrest

To provideaccurate documentation of treatment room activities in patient records usingEMIS Web computer system

Compliance withpractice clinical protocols and guidelines

To communicateeffectively within the wider practice team and external organisations

To takeresponsibility for own professional development

C. SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The post holderreports directly to the Lead Practice Nurse (the post holders Line Manager) andthe Partners. In the absence of the LeadPractice Nurse the post holder will report to a Senior Practice Nurse for adviceand guidance.

E. DECISIONSEXERCISED

The post holder is responsible for a wide range of general nursing care tasks and will oftenwork unsupervised. The post holder isrequired to exercise judgement and take decisions about the care provided topatients. Decisions will be taken in accordance with national, local andpractice guidelines and protocols.

F. CREATIVITY

The postholder is a member of a team and thepractice is receptive to positive input from all staff about how patient careis organised and delivered. The ongoingdevelopment of evidence-based medicine; clinical governance and continuingprofessional development also afford opportunities for creativity

G. CONTACTS

The postholderhas contact with a wide range of people, including patients, GPs, otherpractice nurses, receptionists, health visitors, community nurses etc

H. EDUCATION

The post holder will be a qualified Registered Nurseand must be able to demonstrate competence.The post holder is required to maintain his/ her own professionalknowledge and skills by attending appropriate study days. The post holder will receive formal training needsidentification.

I. EXPERIENCE

The post holderwill be able to demonstrate experience and competency in relation to a widerange of general treatment room duties.

Qualifications
  • Qualifications:
  • Registered General Nurse (Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council)
  • Active and relevant professional registration
  • Teaching / Mentoring experience and /or qualification
  • 3- 5 years post registration experience
  • Interpreting and implementing local and National policy agendas for health
  • Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 years post registration experience
  • Experience of working in a treatment room or primary care setting
  • Experience in wound care, dressings, and injections
  • Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of their own clinical practice
  • 3- 5 years post registration experience
  • Interpreting and implementing local and National policy agendas for health
  • Evidence of working

Knowledge
  • Awareness of infection prevention and control
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures
