Azura Search is excited to be partnering with The Marylebone Cricket Club Foundation (MCCF) in their search for a new Treasurer to join their Board of Trustees.

About the organisation

The MCCF, established in 1993, serves as the charitable arm of the historic Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), based at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. MCCF's mission is to transform lives through cricket by providing free coaching and match play opportunities, aiming to empower boys and girls to reach their full potential in the game, unite and inspire communities, and promote physical and mental well-being.

Position overview

The Treasurer is a Trustee of the charity and a key member of the Board. They provide strategic oversight of the organisation’s finances, working closely with the Finance Director to ensure sound financial management and reporting. The Treasurer also chairs the Finance Committee and plays an active role in board governance and broader organisational development.

Key responsibilities

  • Chair the Finance Committee: Lead quarterly committee meetings, set agendas, and facilitate robust discussions on the charity’s financial reporting and audit matters.
  • Provide financial oversight: Review and challenge financial plans and performance, including budgets, forecasts, cashflow, and reserves, ensuring compliance with charity accounting standards.
  • Liaise with external auditors: Oversee the selection and performance of external auditors, ensuring the timely and effective completion of audits.
  • Support the Executive Team: Support the Director and wider team by providing financial insight, strategic input, and constructive challenge as needed.
  • Fulfil Trustee responsibilities: Actively contribute as a Trustee, participating in strategic planning, performance monitoring, and decision-making across all areas of the charity.
  • Act as an Ambassador for MCCF: Represent and advocate for MCCF’s mission and values, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Person specification

  • A senior business leader with recent and relevant financial experience. An accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) would be helpful but is not essential.
  • Relevant experience to be able to contribute to the overall vision and strategic direction of the organisation, gained in complex, commercial environments.
  • Prior non-executive experience, particularly experience of serving on a finance or audit committee, is desirable.
  • Prior knowledge of charity income streams, including restricted and non-restricted funds, statement of financial activities, and how they impact financial planning and risk, would be helpful but is not essential.
  • A willingness to learn, and adhere to, the legal responsibilities of charity trustees and the specific role of Treasurer.
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership style, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine engagement in, and enthusiasm for, the role, as well as sufficient time to commit to it.
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a strategic mindset. Confident in interpreting and communicating financial information to non-financial audiences.
  • A commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.
  • Passionate about widening access and diversity in sport. Furthermore, a keen interest in cricket is desirable.

Time commitment

  • Attendance will be required at quarterly formal Board meetings, as well as quarterly Finance Committee meetings every year.
  • Additional attendance may be required at MCCF and MCC events. Including ad-hoc activities, a total time commitment for the role is estimated at 24 days per year.
  • Trustees are appointed for a term of three years, and may serve a maximum of two terms.
  • Trustees give their time to MCCF on a pro-bono basis.
