Plane Saver was founded in 1993 by a group of British Airways engineers who believed in one simple principle: “People helping people.”

We are a not-for-profit, member-owned financial co-operative — which means we exist solely to serve our members, not to maximise shareholder returns. Everything we do is designed to offer fair, ethical, and affordable financial services that put people first.

Today, we’re proud to be one of the UK’s largest credit unions, serving over 28,000 members and having lent out over £100 million to help people manage their finances affordably and responsibly. We are dual regulated by the FCA and PRA, and committed to operating with integrity, humanity, and diversity at our core.

In 2023, we were named Best Credit Union (South) at the Consumer Credit Awards and received a Silver Award from the Armed Forces Covenant. We have expanded our membership over the years to include employees from airlines, the military, healthcare, education, logistics, engineering, retail, and local communities — and we’re still growing.

About the Role

As Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee, your role is central to maintaining the integrity of our financial oversight. You’ll work alongside the Board to ensure our reporting is transparent, our financial controls are robust, and that we meet all regulatory expectations.

You will:

• Lead the Finance Committee in monitoring the Credit Union’s financial performance, risk management, and audit arrangements
• Ensure the accuracy of our financial reporting and the effectiveness of internal controls
• Support the Board in holding the Executive Team accountable for financial and strategic performance
• Work closely with fellow Board Members and our auditors to maintain high standards of governance

This isn’t an executive or advisory role — it’s about providing independent oversight, robust challenge, and sound judgement as a Non-Executive Director.

What You Will Bring

We are looking for someone with qualifications and proven experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Financial and management accounting

You do not need previous experience as a Treasurer or NED — but you do need the ability to think independently, assess risk, and communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Your Commitment

• Initially, you will need to commit around 10–15 hours per month, reducing to 6–10 hours/month after induction. This includes:
• Attending quarterly in-person Board meetings and virtual committee sessions
• Participating in training and development activities
• Contributing to relevant strategic projects as required
