6 months contract with a local authority

Job Purpose

  • To screen travel assistance applications against core criteria, and where necessary, to assess the travel needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs. Coordinate the provision of travel assistance for individuals where assistance is agreed. Establish good working relationships with schools/colleges and work with these establishments to promote independence and identify students requiring additional support with home-to-school travel.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Screen new applications against core eligibility criteria.
  • Assess pupils and assist the authority in determining if assistance should be given to individual children in line with relevant legislation.
  • Complete risk assessments for pupils with significant special educational needs on travel programs.
  • Ensure effective communication with families and schools/colleges.
  • Write reports on pupils receiving assistance and keep records of these.
  • Monitor and review all programs of assistance to ensure appropriateness, alignment with travel policy and council objectives, and offer value for money.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young, and vulnerable people.
Essential Experience Required
  • Experience of working and dealing sympathetically and constructively with pupils with SEN.
  • Significant experience of a transport assistance service, with a focus on the needs of children and young people with Special education needs and their families.
  • Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week.
  • Enhanced DBS is required for the role.
  • The role is hybrid, based at Kaleidoscope, with 2 days of hybrid working in the office.
