Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust in Basildon is seeking a Band 7 Trauma (Orthopaedics) Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Trauma & Orthopaedic team at Basildon Hospital. The role focuses on delivering evidence-based, high-quality care across the patient journey for orthopaedic patients, including those waiting at home for admission.

This 7-day rostered role requires independent prioritisation and collaboration with Consultants and the wider Orthopaedic team.

Qualifications

• NMC registered nurse
• Band 7 experience in trauma/orthopaedics
• Clinical nurse specialist expertise
• Experience in education and patient care coordination

Responsibilities

• Coordinate orthopaedic patient care from ED through discharge with proactive theatre preparation
• Attend daily ward rounds with Consultant Surgeon
• Assist in wound care and other clinical tasks
• Maintain reporting to external agencies with Basildon data
• Teach and support staff in the specialty area
• Monitor NOF pathway compliance and drive improvements
• Present data at Governance and Audit meetings
• Provide teaching and specialist support on Traction, VAC and PICO
• Assess patient needs using advanced examination and plan treatment with medical colleagues
