Job summary

Harmeny Education Trust in Balerno, near Edinburgh, is seeking an Education Support Worker to join the Education Department on a part-time, ongoing basis. The role supports pupils aged 5-18 with learning across classrooms and activities, enabling a nurturing environment aligned with Harmeny’s values.

You will work closely with the Class Teacher and EMT, promoting engagement, delivering learning support, and assisting with transitions, curriculum delivery, and personalised targets.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a support, education, or care role (1:1 experience desirable).
• Knowledge of the needs of children with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Understanding of or interest in project-based and experiential learning approaches.
• Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with children.
• Patience, empathy, and a flexible, child-centred approach.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.
• Understanding of physical intervention requirements.
• Understanding of learning needs in classroom and other environments.
• Good organisational and administrative skills and computer literacy.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Promote a positive ethos in the school aligned with Harmeny’s vision and values.
• Support EMT with School Improvement Plan and Strategic Plan implementation.
• Provide learning support within classroom and other environments.
• Support teaching staff with curriculum delivery.
• Assist with transitions, outdoor education, and educational outings.
• Encourage engagement with learning and positive behaviours.
• Provide one-to-one or group support as required.
• Safely use physical intervention when required as a last resort.
• Prepare resources and maintain ICT equipment and classroom tidiness.
• Maintain educational equipment and spaces to a high standard.
