Job summary

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Trauma Co-ordinator to lead and coordinate orthopaedic emergency pathway services. You will liaise with health care professionals to ensure patients are managed effectively through the pathway.

The role requires post-registration orthopaedics/trauma experience, Band 6 level expertise, and current NMC registration with a nursing degree or equivalent. IT literacy and governance knowledge are desirable in a busy NHS setting.

  • Establish working relationships with theatre team, matron, clinical flow manager and advanced practitioners.

Job summary

We need a unique person to provide inspirational leadership to co-ordinate activity within the trust liaising with other health care professionals to ensure patients are managed effectively and efficiently through the orthopaedic emergency pathway

You will need to be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to providing a quality service and a supportive teaching environment is also essential.

All candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the Trust's 'every patient, every day' programme.

Fixed term role until 30th May 2027.

Main duties of the job
  • To coordinate activity within the trust liaising with other health care professionals to ensure patients are managed effectively and efficiently through the orthopaedic emergency pathway
  • To improve the scheduling of surgery, reduce cancelled operations and reduce pre-operative fasting
  • To ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources
  • Establishes effective working relationships with other care professionals whose role impinges on the service i.e., theatre team, Site matron and clinical flow manager, and advance clinical practitioners within orthopaedic team
  • Demonstrates specialist knowledge and skills in the speciality and shares this with others to positively influence patient care
  • To provide direct access for patients, either face to face or telephone consultation
  • Challenges poor practice and inappropriate intervention in relation to speciality
  • Assesses effectiveness of the management plan in achieving reduced length of stay and long-term patient outcomes
  • Provides specialist advice and education for patients and relatives/carers
  • Attends the MDT meetings of relevant cases i.e., weekly foot and ankle, hip and knee MDT and monthly upper limb MDT
