U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated building maintenance services company, is seeking a Transportation Operator in Suffolk, VA.

Position Overview

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District is seeking qualified Highway Maintenance Laborers to fill a vacancy at the Area Headquarters within the Williamsburg Residency. Multiple positions will be filled from this recruitment in the following counties: James City and York.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist with repairs and maintenance of state roadways and surrounding right of ways.
  2. Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  3. Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
  4. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  5. Maintain knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA and VOSHA).
  6. Utilize equipment properly and safely.
  7. Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
  8. Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices.
  9. Handle emergency operations, including snow removal, storm response, and cleanup.
  10. Participate as a team member to complete projects and objectives.
  11. Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by VDOT management.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED; equivalent experience or training may substitute.
Licenses/Registrations
  • Virginia Driver's License in good standing.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
Experience and Skills
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience in roadway maintenance and construction activities.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and respond to emergencies during non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation and Benefits
  • $20.00 - $23.00 per hour.
  • Vacation, Sick Time, Paid Holidays.
Additional Requirements
  • Drug screening.
  • Required VDOT/Industry training.
Work Conditions
  • Potential for significant periods of sitting or standing.
  • May be assigned to short-notice work shifts.
  • Routine performance evaluations.
  • Occasional interaction with the public/media.

Note: This position is essential and requires duties during emergencies, including weather events and disaster response, as determined by VDOT/Contract Management.
