Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical implementation of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables
  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • Potentially lead in creating new product or service ideas and drafting plans for new designs.
  • Manage projects from initial design to production and installation.
  • Develop detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Apply mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
  • Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Prepare accurate cost analysis forecasts.
  • Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure quality control during product/system testing, overseeing construction, development, and deployment.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of your engineering discipline and related fields.
  • Coordinate testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Continuously develop personal engineering skills.
  • Solve complex problems and approach solutions creatively.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects or project phases, or be accountable for ongoing activities.
  • Mentor colleagues with less experience.
  • Comply with QEHS requirements related to the role.
Skill Requirements
  • Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Relevant licenses and certifications for the discipline.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Customer-focused and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passion for problem-solving and providing workable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
