Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrades mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc., infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • May lead in creating new product or service ideas and drawing up plans for new designs.
  • Manage ideas from initial design through to production and installation.
  • Draw up detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Use mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
  • Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Calculate accurate cost analyses for projects.
  • Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure quality control and oversee the construction, development, and deployment of new systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of own engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop personal engineering skills.
  • Solve complex problems and approach solutions from new perspectives.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects or project phases and be accountable for ongoing activities or objectives.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Comply with QEHS requirements.

Skill Requirements

  • Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and other CAD software.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with stakeholders.
  • Passion for problem-solving and providing solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and process visualization.
