Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll work in a part of Telent dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the System Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables:

• Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
• Potentially lead in creating ideas for new products/services and planning new designs.
• Manage ideas from initial design to production/installation.
• Draft detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
• Apply mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
• Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
• Forecast accurate project costs.
• Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
• Ensure quality control and oversee construction, development, and deployment of systems.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain in-depth knowledge of professional engineering discipline and related fields.
• Coordinate testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
• Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Develop personal engineering skills continuously.
• Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Lead projects or project phases as needed.
• Mentor colleagues with less experience.
• Comply with QEHS standards related to the role.

Skill Requirements:

• Previous technical SISS experience, engineering, design, and survey skills.
• Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
• Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and similar CAD software.
• Ability to collaborate effectively.
• Customer-focused with stakeholder management skills.
• Problem-solving passion and solution-oriented mindset.
• Strong analytical and visualization skills.
