Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail and a host of Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • Leading the creation of ideas for new products or services and drafting plans for new designs.
  • Managing ideas from initial design through to production and installation.
  • Drawing detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Applying mathematical and scientific skills to develop real-world solutions.
  • Selecting appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Forecasting accurate cost analysis for projects.
  • Completing technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensuring quality control during product/system development, construction, and deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of professional engineering disciplines and related fields.
  • Overseeing testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Developing personal engineering skills.
  • Solving complex problems with innovative perspectives.
  • Working independently with minimal guidance.
  • Leading projects or project phases, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
  • Complying with QEHS requirements.

Skill Requirements

  • Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and other CAD software.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and customer-focused.
  • Passion for problem-solving and providing solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
