Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.
Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. As the systems engineer for customer projects, you will handle all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical management of SISS within a Rail environment.
Typical Deliverables
- Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
- May lead in creating new product or service ideas and drafting plans for new designs.
- Manage projects from initial design to production and installation.
- Develop detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
- Apply mathematical and scientific skills to develop practical solutions.
- Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
- Forecast accurate project costs.
- Complete technical and regulatory documentation.
- Ensure quality-control testing and oversee construction, development, and deployment processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of your engineering discipline and related fields.
- Coordinate testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop personal engineering skills continually.
- Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
- Work independently with minimal guidance.
- Lead project phases or activities when required.
- Mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Comply with QEHS requirements.
Skill Requirements
- Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
- Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively and customer-focused.
- Problem-solving passion and strong analytical skills.
