Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll work in a part of Telent dedicated to maintaining the UK-wide rail network, serving clients like Transport for London, Network Rail, and various Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrades primarily across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Your role includes undertaking all technical aspects of projects, such as surveys, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • Potentially lead the creation of new product or service ideas and develop plans for new designs.
  • Manage projects from initial design through to production and installation.
  • Develop detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Utilize mathematical and scientific skills to create practical solutions.
  • Select appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Forecast accurate cost analyses for projects.
  • Complete necessary technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure quality control tests on new products/systems and oversee their construction, development, and deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of your engineering discipline and related disciplines.
  • Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Continuously develop personal engineering skills.
  • Solve complex problems with innovative perspectives.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects or project phases and be accountable for ongoing activities.
  • Mentor colleagues with less experience.
  • Comply with QEHS requirements related to the role.

Skill Requirements

  • Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Hold relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline/business sector.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Customer-focused with stakeholder management skills.
  • Passionate about problem-solving and providing workable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills with the ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
