The AU Transportation Operations Management team is seeking an Area Manager to work in our Sort Center in Craigieburn (MEL8), Melbourne and manage operations of our transportation yards. The Transportation Area Manager is responsible for managing yard operations in coordination with Dock, Receive and Ship teams to ensure FIFO processing and mitigate Customer Experience impact risks. An ideal candidate has a background in transportation operations and has excellent program management skills. They have the ability to lead and mentor people; analyze data and make sound recommendations in an often ambiguous environment. One of the main responsibilities in this role is to standardize and improve processes while analyzing and eliminating root causes of defects within the current systems. This job will require exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence change at a local (site) and global level.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Create, oversee, and drive a culture of safety and well-being.
  • Partner with site leadership and transportation partners to improve On-time Arrival and Departure Performance of trucks in and out of yards, and deliver high Customer Experience metrics.
  • Communicate between multiple stakeholders to streamline the flow of trucks in the yard.
  • Accountable to report yard performance to the local site leadership, identify root causes for structural issues and drive resolution with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives and implementation of Lean tools.
  • Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs while measuring and identifying activities performed.
  • Ability to work some weekend shifts as needed (this team provides tactical support to Amazon’s fulfillment network 7 days / week).
  • Lead, manage, and develop small teams.
  • Respond to and manage incidents in conjunction with various stakeholders.

A day in the life

You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, making sure it is as productive as it can be. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety and uphold quality and shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements within your area and drive implementation. A typical day is varied, including everything from routine team management and daily operational responsibilities to process improvement and wide-scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll also be a role model and mentor to your team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in people and performance management, communicating with wider stakeholders including peers and leadership.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, including : pivot tables, macros, index / match, vlookup, VBA, data links, etc.
  • Strong inter-personal and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Work a flexible schedule / shift / work area, including weekends, nights, and / or holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience.
  • Work experience in operations / supply chain / logistics / e-commerce is a plus.
  • Experience in supply chain management and transportation concepts : forecasting, planning, optimization, logistics, delivery performance, carrier negotiation, inventory management, S&OP.
